Start With A Dream

The premier of this magazine
has been a lifelong dream of mine. I have been an avid writer
and reader for as long as I can remember. You would have thought
that I would have reached this goal before 42 years had passed
but I am a testament, like many others, who start with a dream
but never start working on it until much later in life. "Better
Late, Than Never" so the saying goes!
Almost 2 years
with hundreds of long hours and hard work were put in to get
this magazine out to you. It is amazing the number of people
who supported me unconditionally on my mission to create a literary
magazine for the Midwest that was visually fun and hip to read
as well as helpful and inspiring to the new and established writer.
The Written Word Magazine is a mainstream vehicle to help them
give voice to their written word.
I think that
you will enjoy the format of this publication with articles and
features that were created to enhance the writer, particularly
the Midwest writer. Each issue will highlight a writer, new or
well-known with a cover story such as our "A conversation
with Nikki Giovanni". Dr. Giovanni was so gracious to share
her insights on writing and the world in general. Happy 60th
Birthday, Nikki!
Also we have
our "10 Up and Coming Midwest Writers" written by our
Managing Editor, Raegan Johnson, which spotlights writers that
you should read and keep your eye on because they are on their
way to become great literary writers.
Our reviews on poetry, novels, essays, and short stories will
provide insight on other authors to read. Each issue will have
a different reviewer so that we can include a diverse opinion
on different literary work. Our reviewers span from different
generations and it is exciting to see who they have selected
for review. Our selected submissions are an assortment of delicious
reads that should satisfy your literary appetite. As well as
a host of other information you should find enlightening.
As you will see, we covered writers that live or once lived in
the Midwest, but if you were born or lived in the Midwest and
our surrounding states then you were embraced as well. The whole
mission of this magazine is to open doors for aspiring writers
and publishing professionals to ensure that they are able to
publish their work without leaving the Midwest.
Our team here
at The Written Word Magazine thinks we are on the right road
to accomplishing this undertaking and know that you will help
us with your upcoming questions and comments (see page 6 for
additional information on how to provide your comments and/or
questions to the Editor appropriately titled, "May I Say
a Word about That?") to help future issues meet our goals
for The Written Word Magazine.
